We celebrate the life of Barbara Ellen Deely—a beloved mother, sister, aunt, and friend—whose light, love, and laughter touched everyone she met. Born on the Fourth of July, Barb always joked that the fireworks were just for her. And in a way, they were—bright, joyful, and full of life, just like her.
Barbara’s joy was contagious. Her smile, her laugh, her hugs, and her unwavering generosity lifted those around her. She was happiest near the water and with her children—spending sun-soaked days at Shackleford or at the tiller of a sailboat with dolphins dancing in the wake. Those were the moments where her soul shone brightest—surrounded by nature, family, and peace.
But Barbara’s greatest joy, and most cherished role, was being a mother. She was an outstanding, devoted mom who supported her sons, Ryan Salter and Bryce Weatherwax, in every season of their lives. She taught them to smile always, to love God and His creation, and to meet life with kindness, strength, and grace. She never missed a moment to encourage, celebrate, or simply be there—with love that was steadfast and endless.
Barb also had a deep love for her community and a passion for caring for others. Her work with seniors reflected her compassionate spirit and lifelong calling to bring comfort and joy. She was also a creative and fearless cook—always experimenting, always sharing, always putting her own spin on things, just like she did in life.
Barbara is lovingly remembered by her sons, Ryan Salter and Bryce Weatherwax; her brother, Brian Deely, and his wife Nancy Deely; and her niece and nephew, Claire and Connor Deely. Her legacy lives on in the family she loved so deeply, and in all those who had the privilege of knowing her.
“We shall never know all the good that a simple smile can do.” — Mother Teresa
