Brian Helms

Obituary Brian Belk Helms, 78, of Newport, died Thursday, October 11, 2018, at Carteret Health Care, Morehead City. At Brians request, a private family service will be held at a later date. Brian was born in Greensboro on November 8, 1939 to Steven Anderson and Lola Brown Woolard Helms. He was a graduate of Curry School in Greensboro and received a BS and MS in Metallurgical Engineering from NC State University. He was a happy person who lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed playing golf, especially with the "Goober Peas"; riding a Harley, snow skiing in Colorado; shagging in Myrtle Beach, and traveling with friends and family. He was employed at Fleet Readiness Center East Cherry Point for over 30 years retiring as Head of the Air Vehicle Engineering Department, and was a mentor, adviser, and friend to people he worked with. He is survived by his wife, Annette Primm Helms; son, Scott A. Helms, of Boiling Spring Lakes; daughter, Shelley A. Helms, of Sherrills Ford; and brother, Steven A. Helms, Jr., and his wife, Joy, of Fredericksburg, VA. He is preceded in death by his parents. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Brians name should be made to the Salvation Army, PO Box 399, Morehead City, NC 28557 or to the Broad & Gales Creek Rescue Squad, 3044 NC 24, Newport, NC 28570.
