Caulean Vesey

Obituary Caulean Merrill Vesey, 84, of Morehead City died Sunday, June 26, 2016, at her home. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 29, 2016, at St. Andrews Episcopal Church with the Rev. C. Thomas Midyette, III and Rev. John Gaskill, officiating. Inurnment will follow in the church columbarium. Mrs. Vesey was born April 9, 1932, in Portland, Oregon to Alvin McChesney Merrill and Veda E. Ferrell Merrill. Her higher education was obtained at the University of Oregon and Brooklyn College. She spent 30 years in public education in New York as a teacher of English. In 1954, she married James Joseph Vesey in Verdun, France. She was a member of St. Andrews Episcopal Church, the Episcopal Churchwomen, Carteret County Democratic Women, American Association of University Women, Daughters of the American Revolution, Croatan Group-Sierra Club, Carteret Writers and a Master Gardner. She was instrumental in developing a reading/writing program in Carteret County, was the author of two books and served as Commodore of Norton Point Sailing Club in New York. Caulean is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Joseph Vesey; daughter, Shawnna Vesey of Morehead City; son, Dr. Kevin Vesey of Long Island, New York; 5 grandchildren Richard Hurloc of Morehead City, Sean Vesey, Daniel Vesey, Stephen Vesey and Kenvin Vesey, Jr., all of New York and 1 great-grandson, Cohen Hurloc. Her parents preceded her in death.
