James Range, Jr

Obituary James Lewis Range, Jr., 95, of Beaufort, went to be with his Heavenly Father, Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at Harborview Health Care Center. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 2, at Ann Street United Methodist Church with the Rev. Taylor Mills officiating. The interment with military honors and Masonic rites will follow at Ocean View Cemetery. Jimmy was a Christian and loved God with his whole heart. He was a loving husband to his wife Gladys. He was a wonderful Daddy to his son, Jimmy. He was born September 9, 1920 in Greenville, SC to James Lewis Range, Sr. and Lula Mae Wykle Range. He graduated from Wellford, South Carolina and joined the United States Marine Corps in Marion, North Carolina. He was sent to the South Pacific and made the first invasion against the Japanese on Guadalcanal in the Second World War with the First Marine Division. After discharge from the Marine Corps he went to work for C.D. Jones and Potter Grocery stores in Beaufort; he worked at Cherry Point as Meat Plant Chief retiring after 20 years. He has been a member of Ann Street United Methodist Church since 1944 and served in many capacities. He also helped his neighbors and anyone who needed help. He loved everyone. Jimmy is survived by his wife, Gladys Range of the home, daughter-in-law, Denise along with grandchildren Jay and Cathy and great-grandson, Brandon. Also many nieces and nephews. Jimmy was preceded in death by his parents, son, sister and brothers. The family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service.
