John Biggers

Obituary John Ellis Biggers, age 82 of Morehead City, died June 6, 2018 at Carteret Health Care. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 16th at Brooks Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Steve Creech of Greenville will officiate. Mr. Biggers was a graduate of Gardner-Webb University, Wake Forest University and Southeastern Seminary. He worked at John Umstead Hospital in Butner for 31 years in various positions ranging from chaplain to director of the geropsychiatry unit. He was also a Granville County Commissioner representing District 7. After his retirement in 1993 he did volunteer work as a chaplain with Hospice of Carteret County and facilitated grief groups. He is survived by his wife Nancy Biggers; his daughter Teresa C. Biggers of Raleigh; his son Stewart Biggers of Dallas, GA; his granddaughter, April Wheeler-Andolfi of Carolina Beach; grandsons, Austin Biggers of Statesboro, GA and Tanner Biggers of Athens, GA; his brother and sisterin-law, Nelson and Linda Biggers of Shelby; his nieces, Randy B. Carothers of Grover and Donna Washburn of Boiling Springs; and numerous friends who were like family. The family will receive guests immediately following the service at the funeral home. Mr. Biggers was preceded in death by his parents, Ruby and Randolph Biggers; and his brother and sister-in-law, Bobby and Allalee Biggers.
