Obituary Letha Lewis Davis, age 90, died Friday, September 4, 2015, at her home in Beaufort, following an extended period of declining health. Letha was married to Hubert Davis for 63 years and became a widow 5 years ago. She leaves behind her daughter, Joy Davis Norris and her husband, Robert, of Beaufort; her daughter, Shawn Davis Morrison of St. Petersburg, FL; her son, Walter Micah Davis and his wife, Molly, of Beaufort; nine grandchildren; four great-grandsons; and brother, Otis Lewis and his wife, Jeannette, of Beaufort and her sister, Ada Taylor and her husband, Lazz, of Newport; sisters-in-law, Lillie Mae Lewis of Beaufort and Nola Mae Willis of Harkers Island as well as many nieces and nephews. Her parents, Charlie Lewis and Abeta Willis Lewis, preceded her in death, along with her step-mother, Polly Barker Lewis, her infant twin brothers, Charlie Lewis, Jr. and Ralph Lenwood Lewis, her sisters, Pearl Hunnings and husband, Oliver, and Bertie Murphy and her husband, Elmo, and her brother, Charlie Clifton Lewis. Letha graduated from high school in Beaufort and joined the U.S. Army Cadet Corps in 1944, along with her childhood friend, Georgia Lewis. Together they traveled to Portsmouth, VA where they attended nursing school at Kings Daughters Hospital. They attended classes during the day and staffed the hospital at night, year round for 3 years to become Registered Nurses. She had a career in public and private duty nursing. Letha was a lifelong member of the First Free Will Baptist Church in Beaufort. A celebration of her life will be held at her church on Sunday, September 6, at 3:00 p.m. Her family will receive friends at the church for one hour prior to the service. A private family burial will immediately follow the service at Ocean View Cemetery. Flowers are welcome or memorial donations made to the Hubert and Letha Davis Scholarship Fund at Carteret Community College Foundation, 3505 Arendell Street, Morehead City, NC 28557 or Carteret Health Care Foundation for Hospice of Carteret County, P. O. Drawer 1619, Morehead City, NC 28557. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Carteret County for their support during our Mother's declining health. We will never forget the support, encouragement, love, and daily acts of kindness her caregivers gave us over the years.
