Obituary Logan Abeith Whitehurst, Jr. left this earthly life behind to meet his Lord on the morning of May 13th, 2016. Aged 90, Logan was a life long resident of Beaufort, NC. He died peacefully at his home after repeated bouts with pneumonia. Logan was born September 28, 1925, the only child of Logan Abeith Whitehurst, Sr. and Thelma Wade Whitehurst. At age 3, his father died and he was raised by his mother and a loving Uncle and Aunt, Buddy and Martha Wade along with their children, Daisy and Francis, who became the sister and brother he had never had. Logan was a devoted member of North River United Methodist Church in Beaufort. An active member, he served his church in nearly every way possible as a carpenter, cook, maintenance man, treasurer, Sunday school teacher, choir member, vestry member, and publicity chairman. He deeply loved his country and at the age of 17, at the height of WWII, joined the United States Navy, serving primarily on support vessels in the North Atlantic and European conflicts, including the D-Day invasion at Omaha Beach, Normandy, France. It was near the end of WWII that he met and married the love of his life, Pauline Waller of Oak Grove, LA. Logan and Pauline were married 57 years until Pauline passed away in 2001. They were the proud parents of two sons, Ray D. Whitehurst and his wife Darlene of Great Bridge, VA and Logan D. Whitehurst and his wife Sharon of Greenville, NC. Grandchildren are Scott Whitehurst and wife June of Great Bridge, VA and Amanda Whitehurst of Greenville, NC, currently living in Manila, Philippines. Great grandchildren are Sydnee Whitehurst and Gabriel Whitehurst of Great Bridge, VA. Logan retired in 1985 after a 42 year career with Carolina Power and Light Co. To thousands of people in the local area, he was the face and voice of the power company for them in many ways. A funeral service will be held on Monday May 16, 2016 at 11:00 AM at North River United Methodist Church. Officiating will be the Reverend Ben Horton. Interment with military honors in the church cemetery will follow the ceremony. The family will receive friends in the church fellowship hall following the ceremony. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to North River United Methodist Church, 2494 Hwy 70, Beaufort, NC 28516.
