Obituary Robert K. Montague was born in Charleston, West Virginia on December 19, 1927. Bob was married to the former Kathryn Edwards of Newport, North Carolina who was deceased January 24, 2002. The Montagues had two sons, Robert Samuel and Payton. Sammy married the former Barbara Tietz and they had one daughter, Melissa. Sammy lost his life in a car accident in 1984. Granddaughter Melissa married Julio Urla and 2006 and they have two children, son Aiden and daughter Addison. Bobs son, Payton, resides in Apopka, Florida with his wife Pam. Payton and Pam have two daughters, Lindsay and Vanessa. Granddaughter Lindsay was married to Gordon Renninger in 2008; they reside in Altamonte Springs, Florida and have one son, Nathan Deane born February 4, 2013. Granddaughter Vanessa was married to Mark Watson in October 2011 and they reside in St. Petersburg, Florida. In 2003 Bob was remarried to the former Denny Lee Bryson. Dee was deceased in February 2010 and Bob then moved to Longwood, Florida. Bob Montague received his Bachelor of Business Administration degree from Oglethorpe University in Atlanta, Georgia and his Masters in Public Administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Michigan. During the period 1951 until 1971, Bob Montague owned and operated a successful accounting and tax practice in Newport, NC. Concurrently, from 1957 until 1971 he was Postmaster at Newport. Bob Montague began his federal career in 1957 as Postmaster of Newport. After fifteen years, he resigned his commission as Postmaster in 1971 and the Montague family moved to Atlanta, Georgia where Bob started another career in church renewal work. In 1975, he joined the Defense Contract Audit Agency in Marietta, Georgia and in 1977 transferred to the newly chartered Defense Audit Service which eventually became the Department of Defense Office of the Inspector General for Audit. He served as a project manager traveling overseas and in the United States. In 1985 Bob became Staff Manager for the agency. After retirement in 1988, he became a consultant to the Department of Agriculture Graduate School in Washington, D.C. leading seminars around the country on internal controls. After retiring from the Department of Defense, Office of the Assistant Inspector General for the Audit in 1988, Mr. Montague reestablished his accounting and tax practice in Newport. His business encompassed accounting and income taxes as well as management and financial services to businesses and individuals. He was enrolled to practice before the Internal Revenue Service. In 1992, Bob and his wife Kathryn began working to bring an assisted living facility to Newport. In November 1994 the 64-bed facility opened for residents. Bob served as Administrator and President of Americare of Eastern Carolina. He sold the facility in February 2000 and then continued to act as a financial consultant and advisor to various businesses for many years. Bob Montague was extremely active in community affairs over the years. He was a member of the Newport Masonic Lodge and was its charter secretary in 1956. He was an active Rotarian and was president of the Newport Rotary Club on 1956-57 and again in 1991-92. Bob was a member of the Saint James United Methodist Church in Newport, NC until his move to Florida and worked with the church Thrift Shop. Bob ended an eight year term as a member of the Carteret County Board of Education in December 1996. He also served as a director of the Carteret County General Hospital at Morehead City, NC. After moving to Florida, Bob became a member of the Asbury United Methodist Church in Maitland, Florida and was active in many programs at his senior living community, Chambrel in Longwood. He died Sunday, February 16, 2014, at Orlando Regional Medical Center, Orlando, FL. A funeral service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, February 28, at St. James United Methodist Church, Newport, with The Rev. Thomas Supplee and The Rev. Dr. Homer Morris officiating. A reception will be held at the church following the service. The interment will be at the Mann Family Cemetery.
