Adam David DaSilva, 61, of Newport, passed away on Sunday, August 23, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.
A private service was held.
Adam was a kind and loving husband, father, brother and friend who always made time for others, whether it was a call from someone needing to talk, or a perfect stranger. When Adam was sick and could no longer work, he used to go with his wife, Kelly, to make Walmart deliveries. There was a man who stood at an intersection they went by frequently, and every time Adam saw the man, he would give him his lunch that Kelly had packed. That’s just the kind of person he was. Kelly and Adam would always get a good laugh at the man’s sign that said, “Too ugly to prostitute, too honest to steal!”
Adam always said that if you love what you do, it will never feel like work, and that was exactly how he felt about his career. He was a heavy equipment operator with the union and privately in New York, Florida and North Carolina for over 20 years. While living in Florida, he also became a licensed/certified Crane Operator, which was his true calling! His days were often long, out in the hot Florida sun, but he’d always come home with a smile that lit up his face, and a very sweaty hug and kiss for Kelly.
He is survived by his wife, Kelly DaSilva of Newport, NC; daughter, Dawn Marie Gillis and her husband, John, of Graham, NC; stepson, Patrick Stimmel of Port St. Lucie, FL; two brothers, George DaSilva of Cary, NC, and Daniel DaSilva of New Rochelle, NY; sister-in-law, Nicole Shinn, and her husband, Kenny; father-in-law, John Cowan, and his wife Patricia; nephew, Justin; nieces, Kristin, Olivia, Jessica, and Danielle.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to his wife at the GoFundMe page her sister Nicole created for her: Helping Kelly Through This Heartbreaking Time
