Ann Dixson Penegar, 90, of Atlantic Beach, NC, passed away peacefully on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at her home.

She was born on November 17, 1935, in Charlotte, and was the daughter of Ernest and Irma Dixson.

Ann was a graduate of Limestone College in Gaffney, SC, and dedicated her early career to education.

Ann and her husband Sam, moved to Salisbury, NC in 1960, where she taught at Morgan Elementary School in Liberty, NC, and devoted herself to raising their three sons. During those years, she was an active member of the First United Methodist Church.

In 1986, Ann and Sam made Atlantic Beach their permanent home. She became a member of the First United Methodist Church of Morehead City and embraced the coastal community she loved.

She was especially active at the Morehead City Country Club where she enjoyed many years of playing canasta and bingo with her many dear friends.

Later in life, Ann found great joy in serving others through her crocheting, lovingly creating baby blankets and lap blankets for Lower Cape Fear Hospice.

Ann was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years, Samuel Edward Penegar; her son, Samuel Edward Penegar Jr.; and her sister, Janet Dixson Turvy.

She leaves behind a loving family who will cherish her memory: her sons, Jim Penegar and wife Beth of Charlotte NC, Scott Penegar of Charleston SC, and daughter in law, Cindy Belk Penegar of Hampsted NC; six grandchildren, Tre Penegar and wife Kathryn of Wilmington NC, Michael Penegar and wife, Lisa, of Denver NC, Madison Penegar of Charlotte NC, Oliver Penegar of London UK, Connor Penegar of Charlotte NC, Anna Penegar of Charleston SC; four great-grandsons, Sam Penegar IV, Brooks Penegar, Bentlee Michael Penegar, and Colton Penegar.

Ann will be remembered for her kindness, devotion to her family, generous spirit, and the friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Her love and warmth touched many and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
