Our beloved mother, Bertha Dixon Boston, went to Heaven on Saturday, August 29, 2026. We know that her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and many loved ones who had gone before have greeted her. We didn't lose her, because we know right where she is! The reunion someday will be sweet.
Mama spent most of her life in Beaufort, a town she loved. She had dreamed her whole life of becoming a nurse, and she accomplished it when she was 40 years old. Other than her family, that was her proudest accomplishment.
In her later years, Mama most enjoyed time with family. She was a voracious reader, a regular at the library. She had a real green thumb and loved to grow vegetables and flowers. This earned her the nickname, Earth Woman. Her cats were her daily companions, first Fella and then Buddy. She will be dearly missed every day until we see her again.
Mama has a large family. She is survived by five of her children.... Belinda (John), Beverly (Jan), Ronnie (Jeff), John R. (Gioia), John Leonard (Crystal). Her grandchildren are Joanna (Chris), Jonathan (Amber), Jeremy, Sean, Stephanie (John), Joshua, Tara (Rob), Wade (Katie), Luke (Kaytlynn), Caroline, Isabella, Alexandria, Christian (Tyesha), Edward. Great grandchildren are David (Trinity), Sarah, Evie, Emily, Taylor, Alyssa, Everleigh, Jordan (Rachel), Brendon, Jayden, Alana, Isabelle, Morgan, Andrew, Stevie, Nailaah, Caidence, Bozeman, and Poppy. Great, great grandchildren are Oliver, Aspenlyn, Kayson, and Michael. Five generations. There are many nieces and nephews who love her, too.
Mama was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Emily Dixon, her sons, Herb and Jamie, her son-in-law, Duke, and all her brothers and sisters.
The family will gather for a private service.
In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Carteret County Humane Society.
