Carolyn Davis, 92, of Davis, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport. A private service will be held at a later date.
Carolyn was born on September 6, 1933, during the Great Storm of 1933 at the family home in Davis and was the daughter of Blanchard Davis and Florence Paul Davis. ‘Aunt Carolyn,” as she was known by the community, loved telling the story of her entry into the world during a hurricane, having to be carried to the second floor when the first floor flooded during the birth.
She graduated from Smyrna High School, Class of 1951 and Kings Business College in Raleigh. Carolyn worked her entire career at the NARF, MCAS Cherry Point where she retired as a supervisor in Supply after 30+ years of service. After retirement, Carolyn enjoyed travel to Europe and the Holy Land. When asked, she said her favorite city to visit was Paris. She traveled extensively on bus tours across the United Sates with travel groups and her sister Iris.
Carolyn was hard-working, independent and lived an active lifestyle. She practiced calisthenics and after retirement, walked all over Davis picking up trash each day. She was active in her home church, Davis Original Free Will Baptist Church, for as many years as she was able, a good and faithful servant. Her favorite hymn was “Precious Lord Take My Hand” which in her last years, she would recite as a poem. She was an excellent and inventive cook and enjoyed hosting Thanksgiving Dinner gatherings and the Davis annual Christmas Eve get- together. In earlier years she hosted an annual 4th of July picnic gathering with Bogue Sound watermelons as the main feature. Carolyn was a great gardener of flowers and vegetables, just as her mother was.
She never married or had children of her own but loved all of her nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews and was known as “Aunt Carolyn” to all. In her younger years, she would take them clamming, scalloping, crabbing and wild blackberry picking along the shore at Milton’s Landing.
Carolyn loved her family. She had 2 sisters: Iris Davis and Julia Davis and four brothers: Archie Paul (Joyce), Donald Earl “Don” (Dotie), Osborne Clark “Oz” (Nancy), and Kenneth Max “Ken” (Dorothy). Her siblings all preceded her in death.
She had several nieces and nephews: June Allen Davis, Kay Davis Moore (Paul), Pam Davis Morris, Michael Loren Davis (Polly), Kristen Davis Allen (Jonathan), Beth Davis Booth (Jack), Mark Allen Davis (Heather), Elizabeth Culpepper Laster (Adam), Marsha Murphy (Samir), Matt Berry, Lora VanStee, Annette Carter (Alex), Renée de Luca, and Karen Swift (Ross). Carolyn had many great-nieces and great-nephews: Cody Morris (Megan), Joanna Davis Alexander (Sean), Candace Morris Casey (Charlie), Allison Davis (Christopher), Julia Allen, Olivia Allen, Georgia Allen, Maleigh Davis, Anson Davis, Madeline Hill, Ivey Block, Ayla Badic, Heidi Laster Ubhaus (Zach), Selina Laster Friday (Josh), Austin Kiser (Kait), Nathaniel Laster, Mallori Cain (Chris), Sydney Bateman (Dan), Nicholas VanStee, Audrey VanStee, Becca VanStee, Courtney Campbell (Regan), Hali Bird (Austin), Lindsay Carter, Gracie de Luca, Emma de Luca, and Garrett de Luca. She also had several great-great nieces and great-great nephews: Carly Morris, Randy Booth, Ryan Morris, Iris Alexander, Raymond Alexander, Jordan Davis Casey, Braxton Ubhaus, Weston Ubhaus, Juniper Friday, Isabella Kiser, Paisley Kiser, Evelyn Kiser, Matthew Cain, Millie Cain, Knox Campbell, Siena Campbell, Kensington Campbell, Wesley Bird, Luke Bird, Savannah Bird, Charlie Bateman, and Scottie Bateman.
Carolyn had several cousins who were special to her. These were Fannie Paul Salter, Hazel Paul Williams, Myra Paul Lewis, Alton & Becky Paul and Joanne Salter.
In the last few years, she had excellent caregivers in Dallasin, Tabbitha, and Caroline and dedicated Pruitt Home Health nurses Linda, Pam, and Victoria. These caring women made her life much easier and enabled her to stay at home, which was her ultimate goal. Dr. Kerry Willis (Open Water Medical), Dr. Ryan Taylor and the staff at Carteret Health Care helped the family honor her wishes over her last difficult years and we are thankful for their dedication to her independent spirit. “Aunt Carolyn” was an icon of Davis Shore determination and will be missed by those who knew and loved her.
