Dr. Margaret Harker

Dr. Margaret Ann Harker (née Nelsen), aged 83, passed away peacefully on April 25, 2026, in Morehead City, North Carolina.

Born on April 9, 1943, in Brooklyn, New York, Margaret lived a life defined by dedication to her profession, a love of nature, and an appreciation for the arts.

Margaret pursued her education with distinction, earning her Doctor of Medicine degree from George Washington University. She completed her residency at NC Memorial Hospital at the University of Chapel Hill before embarking on a fulfilling career as a general practitioner. Through her private practice, she provided compassionate care to countless patients over the years, leaving an indelible mark on the community she served.

Outside of her professional life, Margaret found joy in the natural world and creative pursuits. She was an avid kayaker who cherished time spent on the water and exploring the outdoors. Her artistic talents were evident in her painting and photography, where she captured the beauty of life and nature with a keen eye and heartfelt expression. Margaret also had a special fondness for dogs, finding companionship and comfort in their loyal presence.

Margaret was preceded in death by her beloved husband, James B. (Woo-Woo) Harker IV; her twin sister, Mary Zamon; and her parents, Alice Eulaia Nelsen (Veilleux) and Robert Jerry Nelsen.

She is survived by her siblings: Joseph A. Nelsen (Patricia), Christopher P. Nelsen (Judith), Peter R. Nelsen (Charlotte), and Catherine Nelsen; as well as her brothers-in-law, Fred Zamon and Allen K. Harker (Chris), and sister-in-law, Gale Harker, numerous nieces and nephews, and beloved dog Lilly.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, May 16, 2026, at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home. Visitation will take place an hour prior.
