Emily Catherine Mease

Obituary Emily Catherine Wells Mease, 97, of Beaufort, died Tuesday, December 28, 2017 at Plantation Oaks Senior Living Center in High Springs, Florida. Her funeral is at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday Jan. 3rd at St. Paul's Episcopal Church in Beaufort with, the Rev. Michael Singer officiating. The interment will follow at Carteret Memorial Gardens, alongside her husband John C. Mease and mother Edna Wells. Born in Albuquerque, New Mexico 2-7-1920, to Edna Moore Wells and Stephen K. Wells. The family moved to East Monk Chunk (now, Jim Thorpe) Penn. She attended grade school there and went on to Temple University. She married John C. Mease on 9-21-1946 in Bethlehem Penn. In 1950, they moved to NC and lived there while John attended NC State University. They moved to Whiteville for several years, and eventually relocated to Beaufort, NC in 1959, where they lived and raised 2 children. While in Beaufort, Kay worked in the school system as a substitute teacher, and eventually became a library assistant at East Carteret High School. John and Kay were both active band parents. Kay was a Brownie Troop leader, Cub Scout Pack Leader, and active in many of her childrens activities. Kay was a member of St. Pauls Episcopal Church in Beaufort. There she was active member, participating in altar guild, teaching Sunday school, and Bible school. She and John were big NC State Wolfpack fans, and enjoyed attending football games with their son for over 30 years, attending her last game at age 95. She moved to Florida to Plantation Oaks Senior Living Center in High Springs Florida in 2015, near her daughter, son-in-law, grandchildren, and great grandchildren, until her death. She is survived by a daughter, Sharon Kay Mease Pelfrey and husband Gregg of Alachua, Fla.; son, John Richard Mease and wife Jody of Mooresville, NC two grandchildren, Mary Remer and Elizabeth "Beth" Treese and husband Patrick; two great-grandchildren, Mara Remer and Camden Treese; and close friend of the family Francene Taylor. The family will receive friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m., Tuesday at Brooks Funeral Home, in Morehead City.
