Obituary Esther Gillikin, 84, of Morehead City, passed away Monday, February 25, 2019 at Carteret Health Care. Esther was born on February 19, 1935 to Curtis and Myrtle Day Gillikin. She grew up in Otway in a large family, being the ninth of ten children. She found her profession while caring for her sickly mother. She worked at Harbor View Nursing Home for many years. Then, she worked as a private in-home care provider. Many families in Carteret County loved and appreciated the great care she gave to their loved ones. Esther was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Morehead City. There, she enjoyed participating in drama productions and Sunday School activities. Her greatest enjoyment revolved around laughter, singing, and dancing with family and friends. The family will hold a graveside service on 2:00 pm Tuesday, February 26, 2019 at the Cedar Island Community Cemetery. She is survived by her daughter Dianna Golden Paul and husband, Nelson, of Morrisville; sister Hilda Gillikin and brother-in-law Rodney of Williamsburg, Virginia; grandchildren Bobbie Lynn Gillikin of Otway, Lindsay Paul Franklin and husband Jeremy of Charlotte, Jonathan Nelson Paul and wife Emily of Raleigh, Caroline Paul McCormick and husband JR of Hickory, Timothy Weston Paul and wife Chyna of Cary; great-grandchildren Isabelle Michaela Franklin, Samuel Alton Franklin, Victoria Rose Salter, Cooper Joseph Paul, Lucas Wade Paul, Connor James McCormick. Special niece Loretta Gillikin Baily and many other special nieces and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents, her daughter, Sandra Lynn Gillikin, sons-in-law Anson Ray Gillikin and Bobby Gray Gillikin, grandson-in-law Lester Allen Salter, her sisters Geneva Lawrence and Carrie Wade, her brothers Elbert Gillikin, Otis Gillikin, Hervie Gillikin, Herman Gillikin, Curtis Gillikin, Charles Gillikin. Nieces Elberta Ann Gillikin, Cindy Lee Gillikin, nephew Bobby Lawrence and John Anthony Gillikin. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations in Esthers honor to the Crystal Coast Hospice House, P.O. Box 640, Newport, NC 28570.
