Gary Banwart Troxler

September 6, 1948 — March 28, 2026

Morehead City

Gary Banwart Troxler, 77, of Morehead City, NC, entered the presence of his Lord and Savior on Saturday, March 28, 2026, following a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He passed peacefully, surrounded by the love of his family.

Born on September 6, 1948, in Greensboro, NC, Gary was the son of Garlan and Aileen Troxler. He served his country bravely in the US Air Force, and upon discharge earned both his undergraduate degree and MBA from High Point University. Though he built a successful career in sales, his greatest calling was serving the Lord.

A devoted member of Lawndale Baptist Church in Greensboro before his retirement, Gary served faithfully as a deacon, children's ministry teacher, adult Sunday School teacher, and in various visitation and outreach ministries. He was also an assistant Scout Master and Advancement Chairman for Troup 103 in Summerfield, NC, which had an outstanding Eagle Scout program. He loved coaching his three sons' sports teams and was known for saying, "Throw the ball, Son!" He always ensured that each child, regardless of their ability level, had the best experience.

After retiring to Morehead City, Gary became an active member of Parkview Baptist Church, where he continued his lifelong passion for teaching God's Word. He devoted countless hours to prayerful preparation for his adult Sunday School Class and found deep joy in encouraging others in their walk of faith. Gary also loved many hobbies, including gardening, birdwatching, scuba diving, photography, and appreciating the beauty of God's creation. Above all, he cherished time with his family, whom he led with quiet strength, humility, and a steadfast Christian example.

Gary is survived by his wife of 56 years, Elna Thompson Troxler; his sons, Brian Troxler (Fabiana), Scott Troxler (Ashley), and John Troxler (Kristy); and his sister, Patti Troxler Panetti (Ernest). He was a proud grandfather to Alexandre, Chandler, Nicholas, Ava, Isabella, Mason, and Jaxon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Garlan and Aileen Troxler; his sister, Diann Troxler Price; and David Price.

Gary will be remembered for his unwavering faith, servant's heart, and deep devotion to his church and family. His life was a testament of God's love, and his legacy endures in the many lives he touched. Though he will be profoundly missed, his family rejoices in the promise of eternal life and the assurance that they will be reunited again.

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, May 3, 2026, at Parkview Baptist Church in Morehead City, NC.
