Greta Groves Boshamer

Greta Groves Boshamer, age 79, of Morehead City NC died on Thursday August 6, 2026, at Carolina East Medical Center in New Bern, NC.

She attended Eastern Carolina College (now a University) and Carteret Community College.

Greta is survived by her life companion, Bill Meserve of Newport, NC, sister, Dana (Michael) Myers of Beaufort, NC, brother, Clay (Kathi) Groves of Englewood, OH, and sister, Genevieve (Tim Stovell) Groves of Dayton, OH; son-in-law, Clint Barnes of Carlisle, PA, his sons, Clinton L. Barnes Jr. (Michelle) of San Francisco, CA, Jason H. Barnes (Caitlin) (their sons, Henry and Silas), Tyler C. Barnes (Annie) of Arden, NC (their children, Noah and Millie), and Matthew Barnes of Carlisle, PA; and her daughter-in-law Christine Boshamer.

She was preceded in death by her father, Ross Groves and her parents, Loren F. and Nan J. (Stoner) Groves; her husband, Henry Boshamer; son, Cary Boshamer; and daughter, Sandy Barnes.

Greta loved theater, traveling, volunteering, the Democratic party and voting, cooking, and family/friend gatherings.

She had a passion for the theater and was a 40 year member of the Carteret Community Theater (CCT). Her first play was in 1979 “6 Rms Riv Vu” at CCT. Greta was a scuba diver, sailor, private plane pilot, and the first woman firefighter in Carteret County in 1973, serving until 1981. She also served as an EMT (Emergency Medical Technician). Crewed on a sailboat from Florida through the Panama Canal to Hawaii in 1976. The only thing she was afraid of was heights! She was fervent volunteer: the Library Book Mobile, PAWS Thrift Store, the Theater, and the Arts Council.

A celebration of life will take place on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, at First Methodist Church, 900 Arendell St, Morehead City, NC 28557. The service will be livestreamed at www.firstmethodist.life . A refreshment reception will be held at 10:00 a.m. prior to the service.
