Newport

Helen Murray Robinson, 83, of Newport passed away on Tuesday, September 1, 2026 at Cherry Point Bay in Havelock.

A lifelong member of God’s City of Refuge, Ms. Helen Robinson lived a life marked by faith, service, and devotion to those around her. She was known as a missionary, a prayer warrior, and a family historian, roles that reflected the many ways she remained engaged in the lives and memories of others. Her steady commitment to her church and community formed an important part of her life’s story.

Helen also worked for many years at Belk, where she built lasting connections through her daily work. She made friends easily, and her warm presence left an impression on many who knew her. In every setting, whether in church, at work, or among those whose stories she helped preserve, she carried herself with purpose and care.

Although she had no children, Helen was a mother to many. That role, as remembered in the words shared about her life, speaks to the guidance, encouragement, and support she offered over the years. Her life touched family, friends, fellow worshippers, and others who came to know her through her service and friendship.

A funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, September 13, 2026 at God’s City of Refuge in Newport. Burial will follow at the church cemetery. The service will be livestreamed at noebrooks.net.

She was survived by her two sisters, Glendie Murray of Beaufort; Carolene Shepard and husband, James of Beaufort; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Sr. and Alestine Murray; and her six brothers: Danny Ray Murray, Jimmy Murray, Curley Smith, Jasper Murray Sr., Willie Lee Murray Sr., Robert Murray Jr.
