James (Jim) Lee Stamp, 91, passed away peacefully on June 21, 2026, leaving behind a legacy of faith, service, adventure, and love for his family.
A lifelong Christian, Jim was known for his steady character, strong work ethic, and willingness to serve. On September 1, 1954, at the age of 19, Jim married his beloved wife, Reba, and the next day began his service as a Turret Systems Mechanic with the United States Air Force in Denver, CO. After his military service, he attended college and earned his BS degree in Civil Engineering from North Carolina State University. He went on to build a long career as a Traffic Engineer for the NC Department of Transportation, specializing in highway and intersection engineering. Jim held professional memberships in the National and North Carolina Institute of Traffic Engineers and Toastmasters International.
At the center of his life was his faith and family. He shared 71 wonderful years of marriage with Reba. High school sweethearts, they met as teenagers and built a life together marked by unwavering commitment. Together they raised three children and created a family that continued to grow through the generations. Jim was a lifelong Presbyterian and member of Sharon Presbyterian Church in Charlotte, Westminster Presbyterian Church in Fayetteville and First Presbyterian Church in Morehead City. He faithfully served as a Deacon and Elder, chairing the Physical Plant Committee spending countless hours tending to the building and grounds of First Presbyterian Church for many years. Due to his faithful service to the church, Jim was honored as the Man of the Year in 2013.
Jim never lost his sense of curiosity and adventure. He enjoyed traveling throughout the United States, always eager to see new places and experience something different. He loved fishing, boating, gardening, and spending time outdoors. He could often be found keeping an eye on the latest forecast on the Weather Channel or settling in to watch a NASCAR race. His adventurous spirit was especially evident in the time he spent with his grandchildren. Whether taking them go-kart racing, sharing stories from his travels, or teaching them how to catch blue crabs in the Newport River, he created memories that will be treasured for years to come.
Jim is survived by his children; Terry Stamp (Wanda), Shirley Church, and Jamie Stamp (Gwen); his beloved grandchildren Lauren Fleeman (Chris), Julia Gresham (Jim), and Foster Stamp; and his cherished great-grandchildren Katelyn, Joseph, and George. He is preceded in death by his parents, Edmond and Lillian Stamp, wife, Reba Stamp, and son-in-law, Jeff Church.
A combined memorial service to honor Jim and his late wife, Reba, will be held at 10:30 a.m. on July 29th, at First Presbyterian Church, Morehead City, NC.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church (Physical Plant Fund), Morehead City, NC.
Arrangements by Noe-Brooks Funeral Home and Crematory of Morehead City, NC.
