Joan Matthews

Joan Matthews, 82, of Newport, passed away on Tuesday, June 24, 2025, at home.

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Friday, June 27, 2025 at Broad Creek Church of God. A visitation will be held at the church from 11:45a.m.–12:45p.m. Burial will follow the service at Gethsemane Memorial Park in Newport.

Joan is survived by her daughter, Michelle Moore (Serenity) of Newport; sister, Esther Brown of New Bern; step daughter, Angela Matthews (Walter Willis) of Aurora; stepson, Gary Matthews of Broad Creek; nieces and nephews, and her longtime friend, Laura Newman (Howard) of Asheville.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Jimmy Matthews, who passed away in 2005.
