Richard D. Vann, 73, of Charlotte, formerly of Beaufort, passed away on Monday, December 22, 2025 surrounded by his family.

A dedicated electrician and proud veteran, Richard served in the United States Army as a wireman. Following his military service, he worked for Carteret County Schools as an electrician. His career later took him to Selma, where he was employed by McClung Electric Co. for several years before returning to Beaufort to work with PT Jones Electric. Known for his generosity and skill, Richard often lent a helping hand with electrical work—freely offering his time and expertise without expectation of payment.

Richard was also a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church of Beaufort, where he found spiritual community and support.

In addition to his professional life, Richard had a passion for baseball. He played as a left-handed hitter for two and a half years with the Coastal Grays minor league team in Beaufort.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Vanessa Vann of Selma; daughter, Laria Vann of Selma; daughter, Paris Hall of Selma; son, Justin Vann of Selma; eight grandchildren: Samira, Salem Miquel, S’Zyla, Sage, Micah, Lyah, Lennox, and baby boy Vann due in February; three brothers, Ronald Vann of Pascagoula, MS; Robert “Bobby” Vann and wife, Vera of Beaufort; brother, Brian Vann of Jacksonville.

He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Gertie Vann; brother, Nathan Vann; sister, Barbara Fisher, brother, Eric Vann; sister, Marilyn Hacker; sister, Carol Vann; sister, Margart Nolen.
