Robert "Buddy" Duval Jr.

Robert “Buddy” Duval Jr., 70, of Newport, passed away on Friday, April 24, 2026 at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

Buddy was a proud member of the Holly Springs Original Free Will Baptist Church. He dedicated 29 years of service as an aviation painter at Fleet Readiness Center East in Cherry Point before retiring.

Known affectionately as "Cowboy" for his signature western wear, Buddy had a passion for life that shone through his many interests. He enjoyed playing poker, riding motorcycles, and tossing horseshoes. A devoted Dallas Cowboys fan, he found joy in cheering on his favorite team.

He is survived by his wife, Jo Duval of Newport; daughter, Shawna Mejia and husband, Roberto of Norfolk, VA; daughter, Krystle Duval of Newport News, VA; daughter, Angela Johnson of Hampton, VA; step-daughter, Catherine Gilmore and husband, Joseph of Pollocksville, NC; step-daughter, Tamara Robertson of Daton, OH; and his 11 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Faye Duval; brother, Richard Wade Duval and sister, Peggy Duval.
