Thomas Rill

Thomas Emanuel Rill, 78, of Newport, passed away on Thursday, December 18, 2025 at his home.

Thomas served his country with dedication as a member of the United States Air Force for 20 years. A veteran of the Vietnam War, he contributed his skills and commitment during a pivotal time in history. Following his military service, he continued to apply his expertise as a jet engine mechanic at Cherry Point, where his work supported ongoing aviation operations.

Outside of his professional life, Thomas was an avid fan of the Carolina Hurricanes hockey team. His enthusiasm for the sport and loyalty to his team were well known among those who knew him.

A memorial service with full U.S. Air Force military honors will be held  at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home Chapel.

He is survived by his daughter, Kim Elizabeth Williams of Erwin, NC; son, Tony Ellwood Rill and wife, Stephanie of Newport; three grandchildren: Miranda Dare Matthews, Corey Alexander Rill, and Maegan Gail Williams; two great grandchildren, Talon LaVonne Matthews and Paisleigh Elizabeth Matthews; sister, Tami Rill Hartlaub of Windsor, PA; brother, Tim Rill of Hanover, PA.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Theron and Miriam Rill; grandson, Correy James Williams; son, Thomas Emanuel Rill Jr., and his wife, Virginia Dare Rill.
