Zennie Matthews

Zennie Howard Matthews, 91, of Mill Creek, passed away on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, at the Crystal Coast Hospice House in Newport.

No services are scheduled at this time. 

Zennie enjoyed fishing with his wife Joyce. He served as an oil tanker captain for many years.

He is survived by his wife of seventy years, Joyce A. Matthews of Newport; three daughters, Lisa Cole of New Jersey, Melinda Madden of New Jersey, and Lori Yesko of Louisiana; three sons, Timothy Matthews of Georgia, Michael Matthews of Newport, NC, and Stephen Matthews of Beaufort, NC; in addition to two sisters; fourteen grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Zennie was preceded in death by his parents, Andrew Jackson Matthews and Ruby Davis Matthews.
