Apostle Willie Lee Murray, 83, of Newport, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, March 2, 2021 at his home.
The family will receive friends from 4:00 to 6:00 pm on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 at Noe-Brooks Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 12:00 pm on Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at God's City of Refuge Church in Newport. A viewing will be held one hour prior to the service, from 11:00 am to 12:00 pm at the church. He will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Willie is survived by his beloved wife, Vera Lee Murray; two sons; Willie Murray Jr (of the home) and Ira Spicer of Jacksonville; two daughters, Lena Murrell (Apostle Ezekiel) of Beaufort and Esther Lightfoot of Texas; three sisters, Helen Robinson of Newport, Glenny Murray of Beaufort, and Carolene Shepard (James) of Beaufort; one brother, Robert Murray (Geraldine) of Knightdale; eight grandchildren, Andrena Purvis (Robert), Teshia Hackle, Chavonda Yelverton (Jason), Torisha Dozier, Jacqui Isom (Eddie), Jeremy Lightfoot, Jessica Murray and Lakesia Dozier Slade (Willie); nine great-grandchildren; two aunts, Lillie Mae Murrell and Gertrude Murray; brother-in-law, Isaac Loftin; sister-in-laws, Doris Williams, Dorothy Shepherd (John), Ada Smith, and Louise Jefferson (Arnold); and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
The family would like to thank Florence Whitfield, Lena Felton, Rhoda Dyer, Dina and Arthur Smith, and Sadie Reels for their love and support.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert & Alestine Murray; four brothers, Jimmy Murray, Curly Smith, Jasper Murray, and Danny Raye Murray; and a daughter, Mae Tiller Small.
